One week from today
I will be somewhere other than here. I'm not exactly sure where. But I am sure looking forward to it!
Let me explain. My long time friend Nancy has this little tradition of doing a cross country road trip every other year from Buffalo, NY to San Francisco, CA. This will be the 5th "Thelma and Louise" tour as she refers to them. (Obviously none of them has ended as the movie of the same name did!) Out of the 4 previous trips two were solo drives and two had a co-pilot, a Thelma. Because if you know Nancy and you have seen the movie, there is no way she is anyone other than Louise!
For this year's trip Nancy left Buffalo on Friday August 30th and set out going south before she heads west. So far I have gotten photos from
West Virginia
Kentucky
Tennessee.
Today I got a text that read "Just finished Graceland, heading to Arkansas!" (Bummer for me - Arkansas is one of 4 states I still need to visit to complete all 50 sates visited.) She estimates that this years trip will take about 4 weeks to complete.
So, you may be wondering, how did I get involved? Actually it was simple. For my retirement party my daughter put out a bucket with a sign in front of it that said "Help Joanna decide what to put on her bucket list." There were note cards for people to write on and Nancy wrote that I should accompany her on a portion of 2019's Thelma and Louise trip. Since I am now retired and looking for things to do, I said why not? And so, here I am about to leave for the great wild west with pretty much no idea of the agenda.
I mean, I know I am getting picked up at Dallas Airport on Monday the 9th of September and traveling through Texas, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona at a minimum. I also know I'm getting on a plane a week later in Phoenix to head home. But what happens in the middle is all up to Nancy.
I have already told her I will not be sticking up any convenient stores for money, and driving off the cliff is not an option.
But, hey other than that - anything goes!
I'll try to post from the road so we'll see how that works out.
As always, thanks for reading.

We will be visiting Dead Horse State Park in Utah where this scene was filmed! |
