Day 1 - Thelma & Louise Notes From the Road
So before I jump into the trip let me just say how disappointed I am in the Blogger app. I wrote a post about the first day of my trip while on the road and Blogger would not publish it. I googled to find a solution and basically found out that "The official Blogger app no longer works." Say WTF???
So here I am a week and a half later finally updating about my amazing trip. You've heard of "latergrams" on Insta? Well this is a later blog update. It's a thing now. Onto my regularly scheduled post.
I joined Nancy on her 5th Thelma and Louis road trip, already in progress, on Monday 9/9. She picked me up at DFW airport at about 1:30 PM and we were off. Top down, 98 degrees!
Our first stop was Thanks-Giving Chapel in downtown Dallas. The chapel is part of a three acre complex that also includes a garden and museum dedicated to how Thanksgiving is celebrated around the world. Outside it's a smallish white chapel and inside it is a gorgeous arrangement of 73 stained glass windows known collectively at the Glory Window. It is truly amazing.
Next up was the Magnolia Market and the silos of Waco made famous by the reality TV show Fixer Upper. It was all a bit surreal after seeing the silos on the TV show to be standing right there in front of them. We wandered around the grounds for a bit, went shopping in the store and bought some cupcakes in the bakery.
Just about a block or so away from the silos was the Dr. Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute. Unfortunately we got there only about 10 minutes before closing so we weren't able to go through the museum. We were able, however to visit the soda fountain where a real live soda jerk (and I am not being offensive) made me a Dr. Pepper with syrup and soda. It was wonderful!
Burleson, TX home of first American idol winner Kelly Clarkson became the next stop on our day 1 journey. We were headed in that general direction and needed to find a place for dinner, so I suggested Burleson. I had sort of hoped for "Welcome to Burleson Texas, home of Kelly Clarkson" signs but if there were any we didn't see them. We had a delightful dinner at a local place called The Porch. It was good food, fast and cheap. Stop by if you are ever in the neighborhood.
After that we hit the road for Abilene which was to be our resting place for the night. It was a lovely drive. Top down, warm air and some amazing moon shots!

Some things I learned on day 1:
- It is pretty awesome road tripping in a top down car!
- This trip is what Nancy aka Louise likes to refer to as "power site seeing."
- Nancy never knows what the speed limit is!
As always, thanks for reading along. Check back later for Day 2 - notes from the road.
